Megatex exhibition inaugurated |

KARACHI: The textile industry is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, providing half of all employment in the country in one way or another.
CDGK, Naib Nazima, Nasreen Jalil stated this while inaugurating the MEGATEX Pakistan 2008, an international garments and textile machinery exhibition, at the Karachi Expo Centre on Tuesday.
Nasreen said, “CDGK has allotted land in the city to develop five industrial zones so as to promote industrialisation and to provide employment opportunities,” she added.
Nasreen maintained that mega projects in the city were progressing well with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The exhibition attracted over 160 companies from more than 22 countries, related to the textile and garment industry.
The exhibition has representatives from countries including Belgium, Canada, China Czechoslovakia, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, UAE, UK and USA.
Earlier, the inaugural ceremony was addressed by the Chairman, ATC Group; Chairman, Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA); Textile Commissioner and Chairman & MD, Pegasus Consultancy. The exhibition is to conclude on Friday.
