According to China customs statistics, country’s exports of silk merchandise to India reached US $327 million in the period of January to September. This was up 15.58 percent year-on-year, representing a market share of 12.13 percent.
For the exports, main focus was on silk fabrics along with other silk categories. In these nine months, exports of these two items amounted to $326.6 million, accounting for 99.74 percent of China’s total silk exports to India.
China exported 7,956 tons of silk goods to India, marking a growth of 26.16 percent; the average unit price was at $23.64 per kilogram, down 11.13 percent year-on-year. Around 59.07 million meters of silk fabric, with a growth of 29.82 percent were exported to India in the time period between January to September. Average unit price was at $2.34 per meter, down 7.13 percent; export value amounted to $138 million, up 20.56 percent.
Silk goods exported to India include mainly, filature silk, doupion, tussah, silk spinning yarns.
In this period, gray silk fabric exports to India touched 56.76 million meters, value registering $131 million, representing a year-on-year growth of 28.36 percent and 19.05 percent, respectively. This commodity accounted for 94.51 percent of the total exports of silk fabrics to India. Printed and dyed silk fabric exports only marked $7.35 million. The average price of silk fabric was at $2.31 per meter, down 7.26 percent on year.
However, single month exports to India continued to decline from 9.96 million meters in August to 7.01 million meters in September, down 29.62 percent. Fibre2fashion News Desk - China
