Only a few months away from now, the global textile quota will be terminated after a ten-year phase-out period, which will certainly exert some impact on the whole textile& apparel industries, optimistic or pessimistically. The whole value chain of the wool textile industry is doomed to meet with the challenges that arise not only from up-coming trade disputes but also from the growing competition of other fibers during the post-quota times. Where to go and what to do remain s question that gets hold of the global attention in the wool textile industry. More significantly, what will China, exaggeratedly assumed to take the most market-share by many “prophets”, do to cope with the new trade environment?
For the last two years since China entered into WTO, the wool textile industry, still with more than 3 million spindles in size, has readjusted itself by reducing spindlage and employment, and by upgrading the technical equipment and taking quality, innovation and quick-response as effective measures , to stay competitive. As a result, both the production and sales have been improved and increased steadily. Apart from China, the global picture of wool textile industry seems rather gloomy, to the effect that the market for wool textile &apparel is downsizing, and the competitiveness of wool-based textile weakening, wool textile production slimming, and wool supply reduced, and what's more, the wool textile companies are pressed with more and more social and environmental responsibilities. All of these issues pose a grave picture for the industrial growth ahead.
With these setting, CWTA and China Textile International Exchange Center have decided to convene China International Wool and Wool Textile Conference 2004 in Beijing from Nov 16-18 this year. |
